Building a trophy cabinet can be really easy if you follow these straightforward
steps:
Firstly, route out long sections before you cut it. It’s much easier to work
with longer pieces of timber than short sections. Cut your sides, top and shelf
to length. Next, cut the rebate off the shelf so it will sink into the cabinet
and the door will close.
For the next step, pre drill and glue the sides and top together. Measure your
diagonals to make sure the cabinet is square and attach your shelf by pre
drilling and gluing.
To make the cabinet door rip 50mm strips out of your timber, mitre the corners
and rebate the edges for your sheet of Perspex. Place the Perspex in position
and then pre drill, otherwise the Perspex will crack. Then place self-morticing
hinges so you don’t have to rebate the timber.
You can build the cabinet to any size and using the beautiful recycled timber
gives you a showpiece in itself.
