There are many simple things we can do around the house every day to help save
water, money and to help the environment.
In order to reduce water wastage check for leaks in taps, pipes and dishwasher
hoses. Just one leaking tap can waste more than 2,000 litres of water a month!
Water efficient taps or tap aerators are a great, inexpensive way to cut your
water usage without you even noticing. There’s a huge variety of water saving
showerheads on the market and you’ll find what you need depending on budget and
the type of plumbing you have. Some showerheads can’t be used with all plumbing
systems so make sure you are familiar with the system you have before purchase.
If you’re not 100% sure then call a licensed plumber.
Basically, water saving showerheads have aerator inserts, which reduce the
amount of water delivered through the head, but with new designs you wont even
notice the difference in water pressure.
On average, you could save 25,000 litres of water per year – enough to fill a
backyard swimming pool, and you could save around $100 on your water bill and
around one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions per year. That’s an incredible
saving on such a small outlay.
Installing a water efficient showerhead won’t stop you enjoying a great shower
but it will help you save water, money and the environment.
For further information on showerhead devices and possible subsidised
installation by a professional, check out websites of the water authorities in
your local area.
