Australians know that barbequing is healthy and fun – in fact we buy half a
million new ones every year!
But there is a lot of to consider when deciding which one is best for you and
your family. There’s the oldie but a goldie Weber kettle barbeque where charcoal
briquettes are used to provide the heat although there is a new, gas variation
available now. This provides almost instantaneous heat, with no waiting around
for the bricks to heat and go charcoaled. They can range in size so space is a
big consideration too.
You also need to think about what fuel you want to use – gas, fire, electric
etc. And do you prefer a covered or uncovered barbeque - you have to think about
what types of food you want to cook. For recipes such as Jeremy’s Chicken on a
Beer Can a closed BBQ is a must. And don’t forget lava rocks, ceramic rocks or a
flame tamer. Many people believe all these variations provide a different
flavour to your cooking, so plenty of research needs to be undertaken!
Any craftsman knows the importance of having the proper tools and of course the
barbeque is no different. The basics should include tongs, a metal spatula
(plastic will melt!), a basting brush, grill fork, an apron and a wire brush and
scraper for cleaning up.
Maintenance is important because if a barbeque is looked after properly it will
result in correctly cooked and healthy food. And most importantly, it will last
much longer.
