The most important part of any building or carpentry job is maintaining the
tools you work with so that they are always in top condition and ready for the
next project.
Once upon a time tools such as saws would be sharpened and stored in special
bags, but with the introduction of today’s technology and hardened steel
resharpening them is not an issue, but protecting them is. The teeth on saws can
easily be ruined when they knock and bang against other tools in your toolbox.
To avoid this simply cut a length of conduit to size then slit it and slide it
onto the saw.
Hammers are another tool needing regular maintenance. To avoid hitting yourself
with the hammer, every week rough up the head on some concrete to get rid of any
residue glue, and file off any burs so that timber won’t be damaged when you’re
pulling out nails.
If you look after your tools they won’t have to work so hard, and neither will
you.
