Bedrooms are the most overlooked room in the house when it comes to renovating.
But even though it is last on the list we are spending up big, often creating a
luxurious escape with a beautiful new bed and the latest in bedding and linens
as well as furniture.
As far as furniture goes, the dark timber look is very popular and the linen is
all about bright colours and contrasting textures. Blues and greens layered
together creates an elegant look – it adds colour, but isn’t too overwhelming.
If you want to go way out though, use a bold colour like orange…a few neutrals
to go with it will soften it up a bit without losing impact.
When you want to use bed linen to create a certain style it’s important to
remember a couple of tips. First, work out what colour you want to use and put
fabrics together according to their colour not their texture. Don’t add too many
patterns, and take colours from your fabric back into the room through artwork,
flowers or accessories.
Timber furniture in more natural tones has a more classical look. Use warm, dark
neutrals and white to bring out the colour of the timber.
White is a popular choice and for luxury why not choose leather, or for a more
modern feel lacquer is striking.
Storage needs to be considered too. Side tables and dressers are old standards,
but you can never have too many. Beds with drawers under them and even a bed
head with hidden storage give you that bit extra too.
So remember, for that opulent feeling it’s all about texture and layering. Use
fabrics that feel wonderful against the skin – fake fur, silks, satins and
cotton sateen sheets are all perfect and a good quality inner quilt such as
white goose down will make you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud!
