Savvy shopping is all about getting the most for your money, and big shops
aren’t known for their bargains. The budget conscious are seeking out less
traditional places to shop.
Auctions are not just about high priced works of art and antiques. You can find
just about anything and with a little planning you can pick up some fabulous
finds.
You can source auction houses in your area either through the local paper or on
the Internet. Upcoming auctions with descriptions of items are generally listed
so prospective customers know what is being offered. Prior to the auction you
will need to register and you will be given a number or letter code
to hold up when bidding. Make sure you go over any item you are interested in
thoroughly before the auction begins. If something needs to be restored make
sure the cost of this does not cost more than the item!
Buy an item because you really like it and it will work in your home, not
because you think it’s “a good buy”.
And once you have a price in mind for a particular piece, stick to it! Once the
bidding starts stay really focused because as it gets faster you can miss out on
attracting the auctioneer’s attention, and then miss out on your dream piece.
Besides being an interesting day out and a great deal of fun, auctions are a
wonderful way to add interesting furnishings to your home at a fraction of the
price than retail stores. And make sure you have suitable transport on hand to
cart home that great piece of furniture because merchandise generally has to be
collected the same day.
