Everyone deserves a good solid roof over their head, especially your best
friend. So why not pamper your pet with their very own home. All it takes is a
little handyperson skills and the right materials and you'll have that doghouse
built in no time - especially if you use the new Bosch Lithium Ion Technology
drills and tools, which we're using to build the kennel today.
First you need to build the base for the dog kennel. This needs to be 10mm off
the ground to allow cross flow ventilation underneath, keeping the kennel nice
and dry. We're using 90 x 40 treated pine so it won't rot.
We start by fixing the base together with galvanized screws. The good thing is
we're using the new Bosch drills. They have lithium ion batteries, which means
the batteries have no memory, so you can pull it off the charge as many times as
you like. They charge really fast, they're lightweight and they've got a great
torque figure. Super strong! They even have a great keyless chuck, which is
quick and easy to use.
Use 15mm thick plywood for the base, pre-drilled, then countersink the heads of
the screws bellow the surface. That way when the dog's lying inside the kennel,
he won't catch himself on the screws.
The new Bosch drill has two settings; one's a lower torque setting for all your
screwing and driving, the second for all your drilling and countersinking. And
another great thing is the technology inside the battery. Bosch did a test where
they drove 250 screws into timber before it went flat. Outlasting all the old
technology.
Sand the base so there's nothing sticking out, and its nice and smooth for your
dog. We use the small and handy Bosch sander, which is even cordless!
The two sides of the kennel are really easy. You can use a weather text product;
it comes in a big sheet. Simply cut it out and screw it into the side of the
base.
To give the doghouse some character, use some mini-corrugated sheeting for the
roof. We use the fantastic new lightweight impact driver drill from Bosch, which
fits in your nail bag perfectly. It has a high torque figure and is great for
driving roof screws through the tin sheeting and into the timber back. Again,
lithium ion batteries so you know its going to last, plus it has LED lights on
its end so you can see in those dark places. A great little feature!
Lastly, we need to get a small block of wood on the back of the face of the
kennel to hold it together. But our drill is too big to get into the small
space!
Luckily, Bosch has come up with fantastic invention – the angle driver! The head
of the drill can be angled 90 degrees, to get into small tight places, so we
don't have a problem. Its perfect for the job!
Now all that's left to do is throw your Bosch tools on charge ready for the next
job, and get Fido into his new home.
